25-5
Oh a daughter’s wedding - tis a sight to behold.
A solemnity that leaves many tales to be told.
But first let’s catch those airline flights
And skip those tempting airport bites
You’ll find pizza in New York everywhere.
And plenty of places to do your hair.
Let’s meet our family at the destination
Let’s greet the groom and meet his relations.
Let’s mingle and get acquainted
Before the big moments cause a nervous father to grow fainted.
The hotel is grand
The staff in uniforms are ready to hand
All in their hotel uniforms
While on the streets each visitor is adorned
In the own personal uniform
We join the tourists on the avenues
Taking in the many views
The 9/11 memorial
An unhappy tutorial
On broken relationships
And the vengeance of jilted war lovers
Enough on to the anxious rehearsals
The priest orders the occasional reversals
A repetition of the walk of the aisle
That father and mother took themselves back a while
The ceremony is glorious in a baroque Catholic church
It goes off without a noticeable hitch
Time for the pictures and then
Off to the reception.
Father gives an episodic, complimentary and humorous toast,
The bride’s aunt gives the heartfelt boast
The groom’s brother’s gives the playful roasts
The band resumes with energetic dancing
The night and the song conjure memories of romancing
The sun fades like a movie scene
And through the windows are the New York city lights
Spread out from a sixty-story height
A panoramic backdrop to love
That is not a movie plot
Nor draped by a green screen.
The end comes only for the moment.
Their love rushes on in a new post nuptial torrent
Sanctified not merely by the church
Nor by the Empire State – however great.
No! By these two together with their families and friends
Who met them one and all for joyous September weekend.
