 How slow can you breathe
Stretch the time out until
Last night Dave and mo
were bickering about sweets
And Dave said someday when I’m gone you’ll …
Mo was incredulous
How could you say that?
Tears brimming in his eyes
At even the thought of
Someday when we’re gone
Breathe a little slower
Longer
Now me in the middle
A mountain between
Mo and rose
Both pressed up on either side of me

Shallow breath valley

Deep slumber

Brains growing

To wrap around the loop

Of ebb and flow and ebb

Next Time'll Be Better

The snake head and tail of loving something
from the point at which it reached you
- thank you for your work - is enough,
and you can say that also,
half-arsedly, to the service
and police
whenever the cop in your head
shames you,
and priests too, whenever the saint
dislodges the cop, and your idols too,
wholeheartedly,
eyes shining in
embarrassed gratitude,
the heart becoming the body,
wherever the stage conveniently
dislodges the pulpit.

beat me to it

go on
i dare you
what’s stopping you?
afraid?
i mean it
i’m urging you
don’t believe me?
i want you to
i do
i won’t fight back
just this once
i’m begging you
just a little bit
right here
please
i’ll be good
i promise
i do
