If I never have a gallery installation
Please design it as such
The paintings I made for my friends and family are recovered and framed
Next to each one is a photo of the person for whom I made the piece
Holding it and showing the camera
Or sitting next to it on a stoop
Or feeding their baby while it hangs on the wall behind the high chair
These photos are taken by Roberto
They are so big, huge portraits, clearly a set and each one different
It’s my silk web of gift giving of persistent card making of watercoloring my net
Also, and don’t forget this piece,
The art made by my friends that they’ve given to me
And to their friends and family
Is displayed the same way
The pieces are there, tangible, worn, and the bestowed-upon are photographed with their treasure
Onna in a balaclava from Jonny
Brae with Vic’s wreaths
ZoƩ wearing mittens from Julia
Vic wrapped in Onna’s quilt
Me with Kia’s clay hand
The web weaves between relationships and wrinkles time and those who come to see the gallery installation are the moths that chrysalised in my first bedroom
Obviously the meals I made and took photographs of are crafted into a video with all the videos I ever took of my friends and family and that hours-long film is set to the soundtrack of my favorite songs that my friends wrote and all this is projected onto the ceiling
The moths will love it
They’ll flutter around the heaven
They’ll land on their favorite piece and slow flap their approval
