JUNK BY PAUL MCCARTNEY

in the hall closet is where you've stuffed our
nickel jars, pee sticks, playdough, heirlooms,
broken frames, credit cards, perfume bottles,
baseball cards, green cards, pearls, petri dish,
zippo light, safety pins, measuring tape, lou
boutin's, santa hat, bebe velour track suit, gum,
long johns, broken headphones, paint brushes,
iodine, acetone, expired prozac pills, house
slippers, family photos, mammogram results,
shampoo, laptop charger, super mario, candles.
you'd asked me to fold and put away the linens.
so i gather all the items, and arrange them by use
and size, then clear a square shaped space
for the newly laundered sheets. i go to bed
dreaming i've been zippered into bed, my scream
sounds like nails and screws in the washer machine.
